Don’t flush medications down the toilet, or even throw them in the trash. Hold onto your medications until there’s a medication drive in your city. Any medications thrown or flushed away, eventually make it into our water system and are harmful to wildlife and the environment. Because of drought and public use, we are seeing water levels drop and the concentrations of pharmaceuticals on the rise. While medications are impacting frogs, fish and all kinds of wildlife, eventually, they make it back into the water we drink. Even the most sophisticated water treatment facility isn’t capable of removing all traces of drugs from the water.
